PELICAN POINT (UTAH) MINING CLAIM

Pelican Point was a lost locality on the northeast edge of Utah Lake just south of Salt Lake City, Utah. This famous old locality was relocated in 1995 by Utah Mineral and Fossil Inc. These were originally known as the Cedarstrom Claims. The site is a massive sulfide deposit which is contained within a clay host rock. The clay acted as a preservative for the beautiful goethite after pyrite pseudomorphs and the pyrite clusters as well. The goethite pseudomorphs are about 95% pyrite with just the 5% remaining having altered to goethite. The clusters and crystals from this site rival the classic Spanish pyrites. The pseudomorphs from Pelican Point were a great hit at both the Denver Show in 1995 and in Tucson in 1996. This site is closed to the public since it is currently being mined by Utah Mineral and Fossil Inc. To find out more please click here.
