Are Proud to Honor in Memoriam Searchers Gem and Mineral Society Member
Conrad Cone
This page is in honor of Searchers Member Conrad Cone whom has done remarkable things with silver and stone. He has intarsia down to a science and decided after many years to finally donate his turquoise and stone intarsia buffalo skull to the Buffalo Museum in Jamestown, North Dakota for permanent display. It should arrive there by mid June. The Searchers Gem and Mineral Society Show held in May 2000 was the last time this will be seen in southern California. If you managed to see it then you are in awe. If you did not then you missed a real treasure. This special project won Conrad Cone acclaim in the 1990 Orange County Fair which has a display of lapidary, minerals, gemstones and jewelry every year. It also won several First Place Ribbons in other years. We hope this will bring inspiration to other rockhounds, jewelers and artisans around the world... Conrad Cone passed away on September 6, 2004. He will be missed by all who knew him and were touched by his craftwork. He will be remembered as a quiet man but he had many achievements which most people didnt even know. If you ever saw the movie Sand Pebbles with Steve McQueen on the incidents in Saipan - they were true. Conrad Cone was one of the Navy men there during the events that took place.
