Note: Many prospects can be seen in the local mountain valleys.
You can go on to the land according to the BLM since it is public land however please note that you are committing THEFT if you remove any minerals from the area which is currently a Federal Study Area. Check with the local BLM before trying to remove any minerals from this property.
Of note in November 1999 the current owners of the Blue Lady hit a pocket with maximum dimensions of 4' in width, 1' in height and 9' in length. They recovered lots of specimens including garnet, aquamarine, feldspar, quartz, indicolite, cassiterite and schorl. There has been no active mining since then and all the equipment has been removed. Again - this does not mean you should go there without contacting SDSU and the BLM.
Note that the BLM does not concern itself with legal issues other than who has filed on a specific piece of property. They have no jurisdiction over any activities like fraud or illegal activities which may take place so you are at your own risk if you do not take the time to check out the facts for yourself. Do not take the word of any BLM official, miners or anyone else without verifying the details yourself. By a few careful checks you can prevent alot of headaches or legal actions due to ignorance.
There are also private claims in the area and removal from them could land you in jail.
The mine is located in Chihuahua Valley near Warner Springs
which is about 20 air miles northeast of Mesa Grande. There are several
mining claims in this area and you should absolutely seek permission to collect from the claimholders on file with the BLM. You should check with San Diego State University which has a government lease for a Federal Study Area which encompasses all the above ground area for quite and extensive area around the claims. You should contact the university directly to enter but they absolutely do not own any mineral rights - these belong to the government. The Blue Lady Mine is comprised of atleast 7 claims - 6 of which completely surround the original Blue Lady Mine claim. The mine is reached by a road leading to the Lost Valley Boy Scout Camp.
To get to the Blue Lady Mine and surrounding claims take Highway 79 South towards Indio, California from Interstate 15 just south of Temecula. Follow Highway 79 East past Aguanga to the Chihuahua Valley Road (just up the hill past the Dodge Valley Inn). Turn left. If you go to Sunshine Summit you have driven past the turnoff. Follow the Chihuahua Valley Road through the valley for 6.2 miles. The pavement makes a hard right turn here and heads South. Do not go South but instead take the dirt road directly in front of you. Stay to the right on the Lost Valley Boy Scout Camp Road. There is an obvious sign here. Follow this road for 1.2 miles and as you pass a bend in the road there will be an obvious dirt road with an old shack in the middle of the canyon. Turn left here and proceed to the unlocked fence and head up the hill. This is BLM land and as such you may walk across it without prosecution but note that this website does not give anyone permission to collect on Federal lands and the area is encumbered with legal issues. Be careful reading the waivers that SDSU provides since it does not assume any liability for your actions on mineral removal.
