I was fortunate enough to have received the specimens from direct relatives of the miners and assayers whom were active in Cripple Creek, Colorado. I contacted one of the kindly assistants, Mr. Dave Tritz, who was able to corroborate the fact that the miners and assayers in fact lived in Cripple Creek, Colorado. A search of the City Resident Directories shows objective evidence of the existence of Allison J. Gunn and Richard Hodges. One interesting fact was that the old phone directories often told the occupation, business address or mine they worked at and their home address. Richard Hodges was also listed in the Book of Miners as Miner #6388. Allison J. Gunnn was apparently more tailored towards the assaying business and did not become a registered miner since in 1902 and 1905 he was listed as a miner but in 1907 he was listed as an assayer. It is always a pleasure to seek and verify facts and the truth. |
